Enemachine

Listen

"Enemachine is a sonic journey through a fictitious whimsical machine. The piece begins with slow ringing timbres that suggest the machine gradually awakening. Rhythmic density increases as motifs form between small mechanisms operating within the machine. Quite suddenly there is enormous growth in volume and rhythmic interplay as the machine springs into its full exuberance as it performs a mysterious unknown function. Yet, as quickly as it began, the machine slows and begins to shut down. Ringing timbres become more prominent while only portions of earlier rhythmic motifs remain. Eventually the listeners’ journey concludes as a chord made of resonating metal signifies the machine shutting down."
